Session Title: Pilates Mat and the Franklin Method: The Heart and Lungs

He was aware of the organs in exercises like Breathing on the Trapeze Table and Stomach Massage on the Reformer. As the student progresses in the practice of Pilates exercise, there will come a point where the choreography is established and the work develops in more depth. The basics of organ movement will provide the teacher with an internal view. This addition of organs and the relationship to dynamic alignment is a more sophisticated approach to presenting program development in all mat and equipment exercise. In this workshop on the Pilates Reformer, you will discover a deeper relationship with yourself and new access to teaching clients, by allowing your whole body to become connected with the Reformer and its spring tension in a way that “it becomes fascially a part of you”. This way of moving "with just enough effort" allows us to sense "CORE as Relationship with gravity, ourselves, one another and our environment", empowers our clients as the "experts in their own bodies", and gives us a new awareness and access to Joseph Pilates' vision of whole body health.

Session Title: Pilates & Men: A Perfect Fit
Description: Pilates was created by a man for men. It was created as a workout for men but used by women and great for rehab as well. However, for the last several decades Pilates has attracted mostly women and very few men. There are many different theories why this is, but this workshop is about getting men into your studio. This workshop is about men and working with them in your studio. Like the title says, men are not aliens, and men could and should be a large target market for your business. But do men have specific needs? What are you going to do? Do they need to do specific exercises, should they avoid certain exercises, do they need different or special cues, and of course; what to do about “adjusting,” spotting, clothing, etc. In this interactive workshop we will address these topics and answer any other questions you might have in regards to working with men.

Session Title: Fluffing your Fascia on the Tower of Power
Description: “Fascia” is a new HOT topic in the Pilates community. But fascia is not a “thing” to access. Fascial awareness is rooted in fluid resonance, as it is the fluid tensional network that supports and organizes our internal and external bodies. When we learn to “fluff our fascia” we are opening ourselves to a fluid, more natural way of moving. When we harden our abdominals by “pulling the navel toward the spine”, we put on the parking brake and continue driving, which limits our natural fluidity, creating tension throughout the body and in joints, leading to hip replacements, etc. The Tower is such a beautiful apparatus to explore playing with gravity, power and flowing motion accessing “effort with ease”. Let's explore together as we discover new ways of approaching traditional Pilates exercises with new awareness and embodiment.

Session Title: CORE as relationship: Workout Within
Description: Joseph Pilates always taught his students to "use your whole body"...yet even though he was 50 years ahead of his time, he was a "muscle man" and only familiar with using the muscular system for effort.
